Here I go, with my first 'official' attempt at this game. You don't necessarily need to remember what were you doing on that same day, but at least what were you doing during that time. You can either comment on this post, or link to your own!
So, where were you...
1) When the Challenger exploded (28/Jan/1986):
I was in my hometown, Necochea. We had gone to the beach that day, and went back to my friend Alejandro's apartment to play "Summer games" on his Commodore 64 computer. It was while we were in there that we found out about what had happened and turned on the TV to watch.
2) When John Lennon was killed (08/Dec/1980):
I was 13, and I was living in Buenos Aires. School had just finished, and I was about to leave to Necochea for the summer. I remember I heard the news on the radio, and they played Lennon's "Double Fantasy" all night long. Some friends told me later that they had cried for days when they found out, which I found hard to believe because, well, we were 13 years old then...
3) When Argentina won the FIFA World Cup (25/Jun/1978):
I had to include one about soccer! :-)
I was 11 years old, and we were living in an apartment on Ninth of July Avenue (Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest street in the world). I had never seen so many people on the streets, celebrating like crazy! We went downstairs and jumped outside for a while, but the view from my balcony was so spectacular, that we all came back to see it from there. At one point, the bus carrying the Dutch players drove by (they had lost 1-3 to Argentina) and could barely move, because of the sea of people. I remember that even they gave up and started celebrating with the crowd.

A very sweet memory from a very dark, sad moment in my country's history. If you can read Spanish, please check out this excellent article about the FIFA World Cup 1978 in Argentina from "Pasión de Multitudes" (where the picture below from). Highly recommended

Hmmmm...i have much trouble with my memory but i'll try to play along.
ReplyDeleteWhen Challenger exploded i remember being at home...and being in a state of total disbelief ...it still shocks me to this day, that we all witnessed that together, as one world.
When John Lennon died i was just waking up (i was a teenager, what do you expect) and my mother told me the news. Immediately i cried..i was shocked and deeply saddened. I was and still am a big fan of the Beatles...i always wonder what he'd be doing were he still alive today.
I am sorry but i have no memory of this last event happening....ooops, just not a soccer fan...not that i hate it, i watch the odd match...it sounded like a very big deal though.
I was here hours ago just to post my link then head off to my meeting, now I'm back! LOL
ReplyDeleteWow, you have some good recollection of things hhuh? I love this game...and I would to play this every Tuesday!
CÓMO TE PUEDES ACORDAR???!!!!
ReplyDeleteYo no me acuerdo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Déjame forzar el cerebro una ratito.
(malvado)
ReplyDeletejAMiE, Layla, Juan Pablo, Mariposa, Ana, Paola: Thank you all for playing!
Prefiero no acordarme.
Hi Gabriel!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I'm so late doing this, but I'm doing it today.
Enjoyed your answers.
*hugs*
