Silly Monkey Stories #261 – Tandoori’s box

01/Sep/2014 – Carolina (17)

 

It was Labour Day, and Carolina was having a hard time understanding that most stores are closed that day. She wanted to go to WalMart and there was no way I could convince her that it was not going to be open. I know, a stubborn teenage girl, have you ever heard of something like that?

 

Any way, she tried to justify her case saying that Tim Hortons was open, to which I replied that the entire country would fall apart if they ever closed for 30 minutes, so that had to be the only exception. She was still adamant about WalMart being open, so I drove her there just so show her. On the way there, she also said:

 

- The food court at the mall will be open too…

- Why? Why would they open the food court when the entire mall is closed?!!

- …

- Can you imagine the janitor saying ‘I will have some fries from A&W, some noodles from Bourbon St and a naan bread from Tandoori. Oh, and a Coke from Timmies!’

- (rolling eyes) Dad… there is no restaurant called Pandora at the Fairview Mall…

 

I told her I could see how much she listened to me. I made her realize what she had said, and we both laughed. I felt I had won the argument.

 

Only that we still had to drive to WalMart.

 

And it was closed.

Era Labour Day, y Carolina no podía entender que la gran mayoría de los negocios estaban cerrados ese día. Ella quería ir a WalMart y no había forma de que la pudiera convencer de que no iba a estar abierto. Ya sé, una adolescente cabeza dura, alguien acaso ha oído sobre una cosa así?

 

Ella trató de justificar su razonamiento diciendo que Tim Hortons estaba abierto, a lo que le respondí explicándole como el país entero explotaría en llamas si los Timmies cerraran aunque sólo fuera por 30 minutos, así que ésa tendría que ser la única excepción. La tipa seguía hinchando con que WalMart iba a estar abierto, así que decidí llevarla sólo para mostrarle. Camino al lugar, la niña dijo:

 

- El patio de comidas de los malls también tiene que estar abierto…

- Para qué? Por qué irían a abrir el patio de comidas si el mall entero está cerrado??!!

- …

- Te imaginás al sereno caminando solo y diciendo ‘Quiero papas fritas de A&W, unos fideos de Bourbon St y un pan naan de Tandoori. Oh, y una Coca de Timmies!’

- (mirándome con cara de ‘pobre tipo’) Pa… no hay ningún restaurante llamado Pandora en el Fairview Mall…

 

Le dije que podía ver cómo me escuchaba cuando yo hablaba. Le hice notar lo que había dicho, y los dos nos reímos. Pensé que había ganado la discusión.

 

Sólo que de todos modos tuvimos que ir al WalMart.

 

Y estaba cerrado.
