The wind

If there is anything that characterizes what our last four or five months have been in here that would be rain. It feels like it has rained every second day since we moved to the new house, and sometimes those storms were accompanied by really strong winds. We did, in fact, have a small tornado around August that caused some damaged in the area, including the fences in our back yard. We have had little ponds in the back for the entire summer (of course the shape of our lot doesn’t help, so we will have to do some draining work soon).

 

We had yet another strong wind advisory last night (very likely related to the tornado that hit Illinois and other mid-West points). Once the wind started to hit hard, I said to myself ‘The fence will not resist this’.

 

I was right. Now I am asking for estimates and getting ready to cough a good $500. I hope our next door neighbour is willing to pay half!

Those who criticize my hometown in Argentina (Necochea) saying that it’s too windy…they should come to the Waterloo Region during the spring or the fall!!!

 

 

 

 

Si hay algo que ha caracterizado los últimos cuatro o cinco meses por aquí ha sido la lluvia. Parecería que ha llovido día por medio desde que nos mudamos a la casa nueva, y a veces estas tormentas fueron acompañadas por vientos muy fuertes. De hecho tuvimos un pequeño tornado por Agosto que causó algunos daños en la zona, incluyendo las empalizadas de nuestro jardín. Hemos tenidos charcos por todos lados durante el verano (claro que el terreno donde vivimos no ayuda, así que vamos a tener que hacer trabajo de drenado pronto).

 

Anoche tuvimos un alerta de vientos fuertes (seguramente relacionado al tornado que azotó Illinois y otros puntos del Mid-West). Una vez que empezó a soplar el viento fuerte, me dije ‘Esta cerca no va a resistir’.

 

Estaba en lo cierto. Ahora ando pidiendo presupuestos y preparándome a pagar como $500. Espero que el vecino de al lado esté dispuesto a poner la mitad!!

Los que critican mi ciudad natal (Necochea) diciendo que es ventosa… deberían venir a la Región de Waterloo durante la primavera o el invierno!!!
