Live from Waterloo: Patience in digital times

I’ve said it several times before: there are few things I like better than watching TV with Gaby on a cold winter night. We just get together, lay on our La-Z-Boys and blanket and coffee in hands, we enjoy watching our favourite shows, until one of us (OK, Gaby) falls asleep.

It was different tonight, as we were too tired and decided to watch TV in our bedroom, something that we never do. And we faced a big problem here: we don’t have a PVR in our bedroom, so we had to watch the shows with commercials and everything.

And we are definitely not used to that anymore. Both me and Gaby didn’t know what to do with those 4, 5 minutes breaks, they did feel like a waste of time. “C’mon, fast forward it!” , I would say all the time. I’m actually writing this post during the breaks! Smile

I miss my PVR, my Western Digital TV Media Player and the TV shows I download from EZTV. I’m not ashamed to admit I got way too used to them. If only any of the shows we watched were on TLN (the Latino network)… at least I would have enjoyed the commercials, which are incredibly (and unintentionally) funny, much more than the shows we watch.

Ya lo he contado en otras oportunidades: pocas cosas me gustan más que mirar TV con Gaby en las noches frías de invierno. Nos sentamos juntitos en los La-Z-Boys y munidos de mantitas y cafés, disfrutamos mirando nuestros shows favoritos hasta que uno de nosotros (OK, Gaby) se empieza a quedar dormido.

Hoy hicimos diferentes planes, porque estábamos cansados y decidimos mirar la TV en la habitación, algo que nunca hacemos. Y tenemos un problema: no tenemos PVR en la pieza, así que tuvimos que ‘morfarnos’ los comerciales en todos los programas que miramos.

Y ya no estamos acostumbrados a eso. Tanto Gaby como yo no sabíamos qué hacer con esos 4 ó 5 minutos, que parecían una pérdida de tiempo. “Dale, adelantá!”, le decía yo todo el tiempo. Es más, estoy escribiendo este post durante los comerciales! Smile

Extraño my PVR, mi WD Media Player y mis programas de la tele sin comerciales, bajados de EZTV. No me avergüenza admitir que me acostumbré demasiado a ellos. Si al menos uno de los shows fuera de TLN (la cadena latina)… al menos los comerciales son increíblemente divertidos (muy a su pesar), mucho más que los shows que miramos.
