My Dad is a smart ass - #06

Florencia is a very avid reader, much like her Dad at that age. She spends lots of time reading, and you can tell she enjoys it. Whenever she reads her school assignments to us, you can always tell she's way above the media for her age.

 

It was because of her great skills that she got chosen to read the Prayers for the People at church last year and she did just great. I have a good video of her reading that I never published because of her ‘video bomber’ siblings, who were making all kinds of dumb faces behind her. :-)

 

She was reading to me the other day, and she was of course doing a great job. She then brought her notebook where she tracks her progress for me to sign and leave a comment, which I did.

 

She looked at what I had written and turned to me, angry:

 

- Dad! Why would you put that??!!
- (Surprised) Wh...what do you mean?
- (Still angry) You wrote 'She's impossible'!
- (Laughing) No! I wrote 'She's impressive'!
- Oh. (She checks). You're right. Never mind.
- Um... Actually, you might want to give me back that notebook. Suddenly, I'm having second thoughts about what I just wrote about your reading skills…

 

She looked at me and said, rolling her eyes:

 

- Dad...

 

Wow. First time she’s called an ass without actually having to say the words. She's getting good at this!

 

 

Florencia es una lectora muy ávida, como lo fuera su padre a esa edad. Pasa horas y horas leyendo, y uno puede ver cuánto le gusta. Cuando nos lee los libros que le dan en la escuela uno se da cuenta de que está muy por encima de la media para su edad.

 

Fue debido a su buena lectura que la eligieron el año pasado para leer las oraciones en la iglesia durante la temporada de Adviento, y lo hizo de manera genial. Tengo un muy buen video de Florcita leyendo, pero no lo he publicado porque sus hermanos estaban haciendo ‘video bombing’ detrás de ellas, poniendo toda clase de morisquetas.

 

El otro día me estaba leyendo su tarea, y por supuesto lo estaba haciendo de maravillas. Después me trajo el cuadernito en el que registra su progreso para que lo firmara y dejara un comentario, cosa que hice.

 

Ella lo miró y luego se dio vuelta para preguntarme enojada:

 

- Papá! Por qué pusiste eso??!!
- (Sorprendido) Por… Por qué, a qué te referís?
- (Aún enojada) Pusiste ‘She's impossible’! (‘Ella es imposible’)
- (Riendo) No! Puse ‘She's impressive’! (algo así como ‘Ella es excelente’)
- (Vuelve a leer) Ah, tenés razón. Está bien.

- Um... En realidad, tal vez me quieras volver a pasar el cuadernito. De repente tengo dudas de que haya puesto un comentario adecuado sobre tu lectura…

 

La tipa me miró de arriba a abajo y poniendo cara de hastío me dijo:

 

- Pa...

 

Guau. Es la primera vez que me dice idiota sin tener que decir la palabra. Se está poniendo avispada la mocosa!
