Florencia was about to take a bath, and just for this time she asked if Gaby could ‘help’ her (she just wanted to be with her, I guess). My wife started to fill the tub while Flor was taking off her clothes; then my daughter sat in the toilet for a quick pee and then proceeded to climb into the bathtub, not before flushing. That’s when Gaby stopped her:
- No, Flor! Wait until we’re done filling the bathtub. If you flush right now, then the water is going to get really hot!
Florencia obeyed, though she gave her mother a puzzled look, and that was the end of the issue. At least for a couple of days…
On Sunday night, we were just sitting at the table for dinner when we heard Florencia calling from the washroom:
- Mom! Mommy!
- What?
- Can you come, please?
She’s too big to ask for help with this too!, Gaby thought, so she went to the washroom, a little worried. She found Florencia standing, with her hand on the handle as if she were about to flush. That’s when she asked:
- Mommy, do toilets run on cold or hot water?
Florencia se estaba por bañar, y para ello requirió la ‘ayuda’ de Gaby (se ve que simplemente quería estar con ella un ratito). Mi esposa comenzó a llenar la bañera, mientras Flor se desvestía; luego mi hija se sentó para hacer ‘un pis rápido’ y finalmente se metió en el agua, pero no antes de apretar el botón. Ahí fue cuando Gaby la detuvo:
- No, Flor! Esperá a que terminemos de llenar la bañera. Si tirás la cadena ahora, entonces el agua se va a poner muy caliente!
Florencia obedeció, pero la miró a su madre extrañada; de todos modos ese fue el final del asunto. Al menos por un par de días…
El domingo por la noche, nos estábamos sentando a cenar cuando la oímos a Flor llamar desde el baño:
- Ma! Mami!
- Qué?
- Podés venir, por favor?
Está demasiado grande como para pedir ayuda con esto también!, pensó Gaby, así que salió para el baño algo preocupada. Se encontro a Florencia paradita, con la mano en el botón del inodoro y a punto de apretarlo. Allí fue que le preguntó:
- Mami, los inodoros andan con agua fría o caliente?

It's amazing how children draw their own conclusions. We often forget about things that were mentioned in passing and then days later our 6 year old will ask a question about it, so he must have been thinking about it for days.
