He will certainly need it…

These are interesting times here in Canada, at least politically speaking. The Conservative’s minority government is not exactly at the peak of its popularity, and they have just avoided yet another attempt from the opposition to go to Federal Elections, mostly due to the support of the New Democratic Party. It’s been said that Canada had very little to say in the past G8 and G20 meetings and was unable to take a leadership role, mostly because… they had no idea of what to say.

 

In any of the other countries in which I’ve lived or visited, that might be quite enough to send the President/Prime Minister into hiding for a while. But this is Canada, eh? Look at the amazing video I found at XUP’s blog (which I found through Blogs Canada). This is our Prime Minister Stephen Harper, along with world-known cellist Yo-Yo Ma, performing at the gala of the National Arts Center last night… can you imagine this happening somewhere else?

 

 

Estos son tiempos moviditos en Canadá, al menos en lo político. El gobierno minoritario de los Conservadores no está exactamente en lo más alto de su popularidada, y acaban de evitar otro intento de la oposición de ir a Elecciones Federales, en gran parte gracias al apoyo del Partido Nuevo Democrático. Se ha dicho por ahí que Canadá tuvo muy poco que decir en las recientes reuniones del G8 y el G20, y que fue más que nada… porque no tenían idea de qué decir.

 

En cualquiera de los países en que viví o visité, esto sería seguramente suficiente para que el President o Primer Ministro se esconda por un tiempo. Pero esto es Canadá, eh? Miren este impresionante video que encontré hoy en el blog de XUP (al que llegué por medio de Blogs Canada). Este es nuestro Primer Ministro Stephen Harper, junto con el mundialmente conocido cellista Yo-Yo Ma, en la gala del National Arts Center anoche… se imaginan esto ocurriendo en otro lugar?
