Silly Monkey Stories #64 – Burnt money

That money burns holes in my kids' pockets is no surprise. Whenever they get their allowance, they immediately start to think about how to spend it. Carolina and Juan are the worst, and Florencia the one who always thinks about saving first (maybe she's not aware of the beauties she could afford...)

But this time it was Santi who struggled. He had been saving for quite some time, and when he got the refereeing money on top, he just didn't know what to do. Here are some of the items he considered buying:

• a PSP
• an Xbox 360
• a microphone with ‘pop filter’ (NPI of what it is, but you cannot record music without it, apparently)
• running shoes
• an iPod Touch
• and many more

Then on Friday, he fell off his bed (I'm not kidding) after he got tangled with all the cables he has in there (laptop, camera, cell phone charger, DS...) with such misfortune that his cell phone got a crack on its screen, thus making it unusable.

So poor Santi had to give me all the money he had so we could buy a replacement phone... and he still owes me some more, which I may decide not to ask for should I be very happy with his first report card.

Yes, I know it’s kind of a sad story, but it’s still silly! You don’t have to tell me I’m an evil father, because I already know that.

Que la plata quema en las manos de mis hijos no es sorpresa para nadie. Cuando les damos su  ‘allowance’, enseguida comienzan a planear cómo y dónde gastarla. Carolina y Juan son los peores, porque cualquier cosa les viene bien, y Florencia es tal vez la más educada a la hora de ahorrar (tal vez porque aún no sabe cuántas cosas ‘cool’ se podría comprar…)

 

Esta vez fue Santi el que tuvo problemas. Había estado ahorrando por un buen tiempo, y cuando recibió su cheque por los partidos que ofició como referí, ya no supo qué hacer. He aquí una pequeña lista de cosas que ha considerado comprar últimamente:

• un PSP
• un Xbox 360
• un micrófono con ‘filtro pop’ (NPI de qué es eso, pero evidentemente uno no puede grabar música si no lo tiene)
• zapatillas
• un iPod Touch
• muchas otras cosas

El  asunto es que el viernes que pasó Santi se cayó de la cama (despierto, no les miento) cuando se enredó con los cientos de cables que tiene allí (laptop, cámara, cargador del celular, DS...) con tanta mala suerte que su teléfono golpeó contra la boca de la ventilación y la pantalla se rajó, con lo que se arruinó pa’siempre.

Así que el pobre Santi me tuvo que dar todo su dinero para que pudiéramos comprar un celular nuevo (me costó $200!)… y aún me debe un buen monto, deuda que yo podría condonarle en diciembre cuando me traiga su primer boletín de la escuela nueva.

Sí, ya sé que es una historia medio triste, pero igualmente es divertida. No me tienen que decir que soy un padre malvado, porque yo ya lo sé.
