Surprise!

It was my "niece" Tathyana's birthday yesterday, so I called her in the afternoon. As I was on the phone with her, I thought "What if we all go and pay her a surprise visit?". Now let me tell you something, she lives in London (Ontario), which is about an hour and fifteen minutes away from here (on a good day). I had to go back home, get Gaby and the kids ready and leave, and all that on a weeknight. Even worse, me and Gaby had a doctor's appointment at 4:30PM. But we thought nothing of that, so much we love her.

I got back home from the doctor's office and found the kids finishing their homework. This meant TV time was getting closer, and you can imagine what the reaction of any kid would be if you told them "Uh, guys... what if instead of watching TV we spend three hours in the car?". Well, the moment I said who we were going to visit, they all jumped in the car in no time. After all, she's not only their "cousin", but also one of her two role models.

The trip was long and boring, as expected. But just the look at Tathy's face when we got there made it all worthwile. Heck, I would do it again today, just to see her and Sileny once more.

Ayer fue el cumpleaños de mi "sobrina" Tathyana, así que la llamé para saludarla durante la tarde. Mientras hablaba con ella, pensé "Y si vamos para allá y le caemos de sorpresa?" Entiendan esto, ella vive en London (Ontario), que está a una hora y quince minutos de aquí (en un buen día). Tenía que volver a casa, esperar a que Gaby y los chicos estuvieran listos e irnos, y todo esto en un día de escuela. Para peor, Gaby y yo teníamos una cita con el doctor a las 4:30PM. Pero nada de esto importó, porque la queremos muchísimo.

Llegué a casa del doctor para encontrarme a los chicos terminando con su tarea de la escuela. Esto significaba que ya se venía la hora de mirar TV, así que Uds. pueden imaginarse lo que un chico diría si uno le propone "Uh, chicos... y si en lugar de mirar TV nos metemos en el auto por tres horas?". Bastó que dijera a quién ibamos a visitar, para que todos se metieran rajando en el auto. Después de todo, no sólo es su "prima", sino que también uno de sus dos ejemplos de vida.

El viaje fue largo y aburrido, como era de esperarse. Pero el sólo ver la carita de Tathy cuando llegamos hizo que todo valiera la pena. Es más, lo haría de nuevo hoy, solo para verlas a ella y a Sileny de otra vez.
