With such good universities and so many arts students around, it's no surprise Kitchener-Waterloo has a very rich cultural movement. This weekend is no exception, or should I actually say, it's one of the busiest!
Here's a list of some of the events we have in the area:
Saturday, November 10th:
This is just a small sample, and only includes the events I know of because of family and friends that are involved, so imagine!
Here's a list of some of the events we have in the area:
Saturday, November 10th:
- Quilapayún at The GIG Theatre (137 Ontario St. N., Kitchener). Doors open at 7PM. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. For more info, contact Neruda Productions. This event is produced by my good friend (and godmother to Florencia) Isabel Cisterna.
- Da Capo Chamber Choir's "In the beginning" at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (23 Water Street North, Kitchener). Concert is at 8PM sharp. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. For more info, check their website here. This fine choir features two of the best singers I have ever sung with, who also happen to be father and daughter: Brian Black and Jennifer Spaulding, both members of Beyond Bliss (I also sing with Jen at Trinity). Highly recommendable.
- Wilfrid Laurier University's WLU Choirs "Peace and Remembrance" at the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall (75 University Av W, in Waterloo). Concert is at 8PM. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. More info, please click here. Kim Allred sings in this choir, she's a section lead at Trinity United Church's Chamber Choir, like Jennifer. She's a fantastic singer!
- Trinity United Church's Remembrance Day service at 10AM. It will feature the Trinity United Church Chancel Choir and a 'young people' quintet, conducted by Jennifer Spaulding, which includes my son Juan!. Trinity United Church is on 74 Frederick St, Kitchener.
- Wilfrid Laurier University's WLU Choirs "Peace and Remembrance" at the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall (75 University Av. W, in Waterloo). Concert is at 3PM. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. More info, please click here.
- K-W Musical Productions present "The fiddler on the roof" at The Centre in the Square (101 Queen St N, Kitchener). Tickets from $29 ($25 for students and children), more info here. This play features another friend and excellent singer, Chad Spaulding (also a member of Beyond Bliss!). These are the dates and times:
- Thursday, November 15th at 7PM
- Friday, November 16th at 7PM
- Saturday, November 17th at 2 PM
- Saturday, November 17th at 7PM
- Tango and Latin Dance at The Button Factory (25 Regina St S, Waterloo). Tango class begins at 8:15 PM. No partner is required! Door cover: $10. More info here and here. Coffee, tea, mate, empanadas and Argentine cakes and desserts available. This event is organized by our good friend Carlos Siri, and the food is catered by my wife, Gabriela. NOTE: Wear shoes that are comfortable and fit your feet snuggly. Leather sole or suede are the best choices as strong traction can limit your movements on the floor. A dress shoe with minimal traction, good stability, and a fairly low heel is acceptable. Street shoes with rubber sole are not allowed.

I would love to see Fiddler On The Roof. I remember watching it on tv when I was a kid with my aunt Gail. My sister and I used to belt out the songs...Matchmaker was my fav.
ReplyDeleteThose were the days.
